We are back in the game! The third season of this magnificence. Listen here:
Jonny H has had a holiday romance and it’s all ‘Marcus, Marcus, Marcus’. We have a pre-guest guest the right honourable Toby Collett of Frampton Marsh fame!
Toby breaks the news of the first breeding Black-winged Stilt for Lincolnshire! Exciting news tinged with the sadness of the onward march of a warming climate and population displacement. Toby then talks reserve management; for ‘our’ breeding waders and birds we might receive in the future…
Jamie Dunning comes on to talk Twite, SCIENCE, plumage and birding. The listener is utterly spoilt on two-guest Sunday. So spoilt...
Twite are another climate displaced species, at edge of range. Humanity really is a cancer on the planet that needs to be eradicated.
12 years ago Linnet was a rarity and now they are the flock with Twite holding on in the tens, not the hundreds of yester-year. We learn about niche partitioning; SCIENCE! Twite and Linnet are the same thing in essence - Twite are just hardier and can breed higher up. However, as Linnet can move into the uplands with warming of the climate, Twite have nowhere to go.
Jonny R tells Jamie about a documentary he watched, called Cocaine Bear. SCIENCE!
One dead Puffin, the late George Michael, UV lights. Can you imagine the party?
Woodcock tail feathers are the whitest thing on earth. Nothing is whiter. Jamie’s research is funded by Trump’s space force. The whitest-white plumage is the under-side of a Woodcock’s tail feather. THAT IS SCIENCE:
Jamie got the BTO banned for tweeting too much Woodcock:
Check out Sko Peo and get in touch with Jamie if you can assist. Low mileage, local bird surveys, what’s not to like…
Jake comes on fresh from Blakeney Point for three minutes. They didn’t find any migrants but did have a tern fest and a female type Grey-headed Wagtail:
DDL has found Marsh Warbler and forgets he also had a Bee-eater in the week.
DDL has also had a tern fest, this one over in the UAE and including his beloved portlandica plumaged birds:
Jonny H enjoyed Majorca including; Bee-eater, Audouin Gulls (bin dippers), Balearic Warbler, Eleanora’s Falcon, Night Heron and Purple Heron.
It transpires that DDL is keeping Daniel Branch hostage. Things take a dark turn and we are going to make sure that Daniel is not still handcuffed to a radiator by this time next week.
Jonny R has enjoyed Bitterns at Lakenheath, still has a single Whimbrel on patch and enjoys his local breeding birds.
The listener can get 10% off anything on the UK Birding Pins website with code: BIRDERSTWITTER
You are so lucky, I mean, two guests, discount codes. Stunning, simply stunning.
We close the show with Daniel Branch advising it’s about time we just stop it. Which is fair, totally fair. We probably won't though.
Till next week, listen again here:
