Black-crowned Herron - Jane Stylianou

The whole episode is delayed as Jonny H thinks he is too cool to say whoopy whoopy whoo whoo.

Jane is a much needed quality guest after a few episodes lacking such quality.

Just moments into the call Jane starts to feel the tingling of regret

Having married a Cypriot Jane has resided in Cyprus since 1985, for the last 13 - 14 years Jane has been the Birdlife Cyprus Bird Recorder and for the last 8 years the chair of the Cyprus Rare Bird Rare Birds Committee.

Jane calls into question some particularly iffy records received back in 2013 from a certain DDL!

Summer is the WORST time to visit Cyprus. From August things get better, with Purple Heron movement, Pallas's Gull and Oystercatcher! A sought after year tick for Cyprus birders.

Endemics like Cyprus Wheatear, Warbler and more recently Scops Owl - Jonny H ruins the entire chat by showing off that he went to Cyprus for three days and didn't see a Scops Owl.

Jane gives some Cyprus sea watching tips.

'People tick Scopoli's Shearwater of the back of a camera' - Jonny H, Sunday 20th August 2023

Jane takes us through her Cyprus birding year. Most of the 410 species on the Cyprus list are migrants.

Jonny R and Jane call into question pre 1980's birders. Photographs are really helpful.

After 20 mins Jonny R asks where Cyprus is.

Jane is arranging this autumns raptor count and discusses Cyprus raptors.

Jane found the first Cyprus record of White-eyed Gull. Serious! Birding is pure luck - do not study - it will not assist your rare finding.

DDL has been counting shopping trollies:

Jonny H has done some mild vis mig which resulted in a Tree Pipit:

We undertake the usual waffle and make predictions etc. Tbh we're all ruthlessly excited about Migfest:

Jonny H and DDL are super proud that Jonny R saw Black-winged Kite - despite the fact that one of them is a thug and the other a bouncer:

DDL has supressed Yellow-billed Teal. What a b#8st8rd:
