White-tailed Eagle - Long Thurlow, Suffolk - 22nd October 2023

Season 3 - episode 20 - the last show this season, or maybe ever! Listen again here:

We commence proceedings with some eagle facts - from eagle expert Jonny R:

  • Eagles can form a fist with their talons and knock a man out. Easily; and

  • Jonny R is an eagles spirit animal.

Paul French aka @Nomadbirder then joins us for bunting chat:

'The Flamborough Red-headed Bunting looks really bad' - Paul French 22nd October 2023.

Paul give us an identification masterclass - listen again with reference to the below photos:

From co-finder @Simon_Gillings

Tom Hines aka @tomhines10 photo:

There is no accepted Red-headed Bunting yet! The Skerries bird is pending!

The review of Black-headed/ Red-headed Bunting records will come… it’s taken over 60 episodes - but Birder’s Twitter is finally relevant!

Paul’s looks at saltwater American Wigeon:

Black Duck, American Coot or Red-headed Bunting is the worst bird on the British list.

Ruddy Shelduck will definitely ascend to Category A of the British List. Bad boy guarantee.

The Yorkshire list is on 470 which is the biggest County list in the Country- after Jonny R’s Suffolk list.

DDL looks at owls:

Jonny H persists with Vis Mig and smashed up Flamborough twice for White-billed Diver, the Red-headed Bunting, Sibe Stonechat and Black Redstart:

Jonny R dipped the eagle on Saturday - then massively un-dipped on Sunday. It was so glorious and magnificent:

We make predictions for the week including east coast Chimney Swift - it might happen?

We will be publishing episodes on the podcast in coming weeks - subscribe on iTunes/ Spotify so you don’t miss them…

Mark Cocker has a new book out. It might be good?

Remember - always GO FULL EAGLE! Listen again to S3E20 here:
