Jonny R manages to start the Space 10 mins early in a valiant act of incompetence.
DDL bursts in like a big mad cockney.
Jonny R makes a couple of announcements, including and not limited to:
The next Tern the Tide will be announced on episode 20;
There might be Birders Twitter merch available?
We could even be dabbling in podcasting - bringing high quality convos with high quality birders; and
DDL and Jonny R will be at Migfest 2023 and might be making appearances elsewhere.
Jonny H scuttles in like a moderately sized Yorkshire man, technically on time, but late cos of the early start…
Our guest is:
A former reserve warden;
Finder of the first mainland Buff-bellied Pipit;
Not the finder of the Lincs Black-eared Kite;
Found the first King Eider for Lincs;
Found a Black-faced Bunting;
Is part of the Spurn Community with his better garden birding better half Georgia;
Found a Little Owl on DDL’s patch - which he has no care for or recollection of; and
Is Chair of the British Birds Rarities Committee.
Paul French is in the house!!!
Paul has no recollection of DDL’s Little Owl. It meant literally nothing to him. Nothing.
Do not ask Paul to find Water Voles.
Jonny R’s intro was almost correct - with just one big error - listen to the episode to find out which one… Getting 4/5 correct is a new record for a Birders Twitter episode. Indeed anything correct is startling…
Paul talks Frampton Marsh and finding the UK’s first Buff-bellied Pipit. Which Jonny H dirty twitched.
Jonny H asked about ‘that flycatcher’ so insensitive. Jonny H is delighted to hear that after enough people die ‘that flycatcher’ might be accepted.
Paul shares Jonny R’s dream of finding Black Duck at Blythburgh. We decide to maintain the current rarities committee structure to prolong the glory of Jonny R inevitably finding Black Duck in Suffolk.
DDL likes rejection and a narrative about why he’s rejected - Dutch style. Why don’t you just move there DDL?
Jonny H can tick the Black Kite at the Bird of Prey centre.
We learn about the gatekeeper of the Yorkshire list.
Ian Bennell demands that White-headed Duck and Marbled Duck are added to the British List immediately. We get an *exclusive* that the relevant file is in circulation.
There’s strong duck chat…
We talk self found and UK250.
DDL asks horrible questions of the guest. Specifically those birds seen by Paul’s housemate and not him.
We drag up painful memories for our guests. That’s a Birders Twitter guarantee. We offer post recording therapy for all guests - free of charge. In person. In public houses. Drinks not included.
We talk Booted Eagle and we’re going to get the BOURC chair on to answer some serious questions.
Jonny R has seen a Booted Eagle in England - which was rejected. Also, seen by other birding luminaries.
We close the call with predictions and Paul drops an absolute banger of a National prediction…
