Well, would you believe it - we finish Season 1 of Birders Twitter and just one week and a day later I find a goodie. A Cattle Egret non-the-less.

Norfolk and even Essex birders are used to Cattle Egret and I think they might even breed in those counties. In Suffolk they remain sporadic - with singles or small groups at best and I don't believe they breed. This was just my second in the county, after a Breckland bird back in February 2021.

Even better than that, it wasn't on my Blythburgh patch or any of my local spots, but off a random junction of the A143 near Diss. Making the most of the thaw - feeding with gulls in a field. A great bird to find between work commitments.


The main reason for this post is to make sure I remember to brag about this on the first episode of Season 2. Maybe, just maybe, I'll finally get some respect from Jonny H and DDL...
