Colour ringed Stonechat - King's Forest 07th April 2018

The BTO might have been chillin. Like HARD chillin. Like taking enough LSD in 2018 that you surface again in 2023 chillin. I mean that's a five year long trip!

So, I reported a colour ringed Stonechat, spotted on a targeted species survey back on 07th April 2018. Yesterday, the 22nd December 2023, I received the juicy details:

  • Ring Number: D544320 Species of bird: Stonechat (Saxicola rubicola);

  • This bird was ringed by Thetford Forest Ringing Group as age nestling, sex unknown on 07-Jun-2016 19:30:00 at Brandon Park, Suffolk, UK;

  • Colour Marks left below knee C,G;

  • Colour Marks right below knee P,M;

  • It was found on 07-Apr-2018 12:00:00 at The King's Forest, Suffolk, UK; and

  • It was found 669 days after it was ringed, 9 km from the ringing site, direction SSE.

I am going to be honest, a self induced, hallucinogenic coma that avoided the year 2020 is actually a pretty wise move.

Another shot of the beaut:

On the same survey I had killer views of Goshawk:
